The initiative is making substantial investments into four key industrial sectors in Pakistan to uplift the country and its population. One of the four key industrial sectors which is receiving attention is the Ready Made Garment Industry.UNIDO, with a proven track record for the implementation of large industrial projects has been appointed to provide technical assistance for the development of various industrial clusters and provide further support by assisting the integration into global value chains.At the initial stage, UNIDO experts performed a study of the Lahore Ready Made Garment Industry and one finding was the need to establish a Ready Made Garment Design Studio that can provide sustainable Design, Technical, Training and Marketing Assistance to the Cluster Participants, with the aim of improving overall international competitiveness and grow export revenues.To this end, UNIDO contracted with the Dutch based trade association for fashion, interior design, carpets and textiles, MODINT, which has extensive expertise in setting up design centres and provides on-going market and technical reports.After MODINT was awarded the contract to establish the Ready Made Garment Design Studio, MODINT formed an international panel of experts to which I was selected. My role is creating a business and financial model for the Design Centre which is sustainable and provides the right services to the cluster participants to enhance their export potential.The overall project length is 20 months and I look forward to play my small role in the upliftment of this region.
