I am currently a Chancellor's Fellow within EPCC at the University of Edinburgh, where I work on accelerating high-fidelity simulations of marine energy systems through a combination of data-driven techniques and novel parallel computing strategies. My background is primarily in computational fluid dynamics (e.g. smoothed particle hydrodynamics, lattice Boltzmann method, high-order compact finite differences), but also includes high-performance computing, flow control, optimisation, uncertainty quantification and data-driven engineering.I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering, which included an integrated year abroad at the University of California (Irvine) and a six-month internship in the CFD Methods Group at Rolls-Royce. After this I was awarded the President's Doctoral Scholar Award to undertake my PhD at the University of Manchester, which focussed on fluid-structure interactions using the lattice Boltzmann method. After my PhD I was awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship to develop a free-surface fluid-structure interaction model, using smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), to examine the effect of wetland vegetation on preventing coastal inundation (e.g. due to tsunamis). After the fellowship I joined the SPH@Manchester group as a Research Associate to develop a high-order Eulerian-Incompressible SPH model for multiple graphical processing units (GPUs). Finally, following that, I joined the Turbulence Simulation Group at Imperial College London to work on data-driven optimisation (via Bayesian optimisation) of active flow control strategies for turbulent boundary layers, as well as uncertainty quantification of direct numerical simulations.Outwith my main role I also have a keen interest in outreach, having developed and run several workshops for visiting schools. I also previously held a Widening Participation Fellowship, where my role was to work with underprivileged schools to promote opportunities for progression to higher education.
