I am a petroleum exploration geoscientist with additional expertise in neotectonics. My recent focus is on consulting via industry training (classroom and field courses), teaching graduate and upper division level geology courses for the University of Utah, summer field geology in SW Montana, and leading field trips for private groups. Industry courses range from Integrated Seismic Interpretation to development of critical thinking skills and petroleum systems understanding through field observations and problem solving. Academic courses include Salt Tectonics and Neotectonics. Field trips range from ‘Show and Tell’ excursions to technical training exercises that focus on developing critical thinking and observational skills. Trips can be tailored for different audiences and can range from one to four days in length. Current offerings include the “Geology of Jackson Hole and the Teton Range, Wyoming”, “Investigating the overlapping structural provinces in NE Utah, W Wyoming and SE Idaho”, “Salt Lake City to Kemmerer, Wyoming: The Evolution and Geology of the Utah – Wyoming Overthrust Belt”. Trips in development include: “Geology of the Santa Ynez Mountains and Santa Maria Basin, with some vineyards along the way”.I rely on more than 30 years’ experience in prospect generation, basin analysis, regional syntheses, structural analysis, technical training, and working with young people to provide a comprehensive and balanced field trip experience for the participants. Flexibility relative to the weather, changing logistics and desires of the trip participants within the trip objectives is also a key component. My volunteer activities include serving on the board of the Houston ToolBank, and voter registration activities with the League of Women Voters - Houston Chapter.
