I have been teaching for the students in the City of St. Louis for 19 years now. I began at Benjamin Bannker School located on Samuel Shepard Drive, near Jefferson and Washington, and taught there for 7 years. Banneker has since closed. I am beginning my 9th year at Woerner Elementary in the Holly Hills Neighborhood. In the past, II have taught a split 3rd/4th grade class + 1st, and 5th grades. For 3 years, I taught a reading program called Read 180 sponsored by Scholastic. For the last 3 years, I have been teaching Grade 4.This summer, I began going back to school in the pursuit of earning my Master's +30 and Reading Certification. I took 6 hours through UMSL and e-learning (online courses). I'm always amazed at how much there is to learn. The classes have energized and brought back my enthusiasm and excitment for teaching. This fall (Aug. 2009), I will begin 9 hours at Webster. My goal is to have my +30 by the end of next summer (August 2010).
