I work in the Residence Halls at UW-Madison. I have been here for over 15 years. I am currently an Assistant Director for Housekeeping. My primary responsibility is managing the night shift custodial crew and supervisors. My crew and I are responsible for the cleaning of common area spaces including offices, front desk, computer labs, and laundry rooms. Aside from daily cleaning tasks we perform all types of major cleaning projects - extracing carpets, furniture extraction, scrubbing and waxing floors, construction cleanup, etc.We respond to all custodial, maintenance, and/or emergency calls from 3pm to 7am including any type of cleanup, fire alarms, electrical issues, plumbing issues, safety concerns, elevator issues, etc. We cover over 29 buildings which includes all residence halls and food service areas. In addition to managing the night crews, I oversee and track the Housekeeping budgets for chemicals, consumable products, and equipment. I assist with the testing of new products, maintain ordering processes, and approve the purchasing of resident room supplies such as mattresses, and refrigerators, chemicals, consumable items, and custodial equipment. I also direct the contracting out of work such as window washing, carpet cleaning, and floor refinishing within the Residence Halls.
