I am a final year PhD student in mechanistic biology at the University of York, funded by the White Rose BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership. My research focuses on understanding the hypoxia-driven molecular changes that enhance breast cancer progression, using a combination of bioinformatics, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques. My goal is to contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies and biomarkers for this aggressive disease.I have a strong background in biology, with a first class honors degree from the University of York and a successful placement year at the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics (ICT). At the ICT, I independently conducted experiments to optimise assays used in the development of polysialyltransferase inhibitors as potential therapeutics for neuroblastoma. I also have a demonstrated history of working as a laboratory technician at ACM Global Laboratories, where I prepared and quality-controlled samples, solved queries, and learned various software tools. I have developed skills in research, data analysis, communication, and teamwork, and I am passionate about applying them to address real-world health challenges.

Placement StudentInstitute Of Cancer Therapeutics Sep 2018 - Sep 2019University Of BradfordWhile on placement I was part of the Polysialyltransferase (PST) team, specifically involved in understanding the role of the enzyme in promoting and sustaining metastatic status in cancers of neural crest origin. Using an optimised high-throughput enzyme assay employing HPLC and Western blot, I independently conducted a range of experiments investigating PST kinetics and the potency of novel inhibitors through IC50 analysis. I also took part in a smaller project using neuroblastoma cell lines to determine if small compounds used in combination with current therapies for neuroblastoma are able to induce neuronal differentiation and cell adherence in the undifferentiated and metastatic cell lines.
