Jodi is a PsyD, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a private practice in Marin and Napa Counties and throughout California via secure teletherapy. Jodi’s focus is on making strong connections with clients to facilitate changing unwanted patterns with adult ADHD, trauma using EMDR, and a specialty she pioneered, Parental Identity Discovery™, spearheading the clinical approach to working misattributed parentage (MPE).Jodi’s passion for the MPE population began in 2016 from her own DNA discovery from a 23andMe test, leading her to create the Sex, Lies & The Truth podcast, an interview-style show dedicated to the stories of people discovering DNA revelations and coming to terms with the identity confusion and family dynamics that define the experience. She also publishes the blog Finding Family on Psychology Today where she writes in depth about being in reunion with new family, the impact on existing family, and the personal cost associated with disclosing a DNA revelation.Jodi is the mom to two ADHD teens and the wife to an ADHD husband so she walks the talk and understands firsthand the struggle and triumphs that go with an ADHD lifestyle.Trained by founder Francine Shapiro, Jodi specializes in EMDR, incorporating it into family of origin work with ADHD and Parental Identity Discovery™. Jodi also has cultural competence with first responders using EMDR to treat PTSD. Jodi received a Masters Degree in 2001 from Dominican University in California and obtained licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2004. Shortly thereafter she also received licensure as a Professional Clinical Counselor. In 2021 Jodi became a Professor at Dominican University and received a PsyD in Human & Organizational Psychology from Touro University in 2023. A native to the San Francisco Bay Area, Jodi and her husband raise their two kids and dog Nessie in California’s two seasons: drought and fire. She enjoys being outdoors and in her garden as much as possible, finding the perfect donut, researching travel ideas, and secretly harbors plans to move to Scotland.

Licensed PsychotherapistPrivate Psychotherapy Practice Apr 2004 - PresentCalifornia, United StatesTherapy is an opportunity for change, insight and growth, requiring trust. I help individuals address painful situations, unwanted core beliefs and family of origin issues continuing to affect the present. Therapy is also an opportunity for improvement, strengthening forgotten skills.I have three main areas of focus: ADHD, Trauma and Parental Identity Discovery™, and use a variety of training and tools to address them collaterally.Working in ADHD counseling it became clear that effective treatments would encompass multimodal research and interventions, using collaborative practice to support clients developing healthy patterns while addressing negative core beliefs. I have a bevy of tools to support the challenges that come with ADHD.EMDR is my treatment of choice when working with fears, core beliefs and traumas of all types. Early traumas and life experiences shape our coping, self-talk, expectations and behavior & EMDR works quickly and effectively to assimilate that into healthy coping. I trained under founder Francine Shapiro and use it for critical incidents in first responder treatment as well as in ADHD treatment to address core beliefs.Parental Identity Discovery is a new term I coined to describe Not Parent Expected (NPE) like adoptions, falsified paternity, misled parentage, etc., often revealed in commercial DNA tests. Personal experience with shocking DNA results and training in grief makes me an expert in this new field where family dynamics are threatened and identity is questioned.
