The St Vincent de Paul Society SA (Vinnies) is an iconic charity that is committed to assisting people experiencing disadvantage with a hand up through a focus on food, clothing, shelter and advocacy. As a member of the marketing, communications and fundraising team that punches well above its weight, my role is diverse and unpredictable. My strength is my versatility and ability to leverage my natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge to get to the heart of the matter quickly and in turn determine WHAT needs to be communicated, to WHOM, and HOW in a complex environment. Key responsibilities include:• Development and management of communications and PR strategies.• Effective relationship management with media and key influencers.• Development and management of digital marketing channels.• Preparation of media releases, newsletters, annual reports, fundraising collateral, donor impact reports.• Preparation of speech notes for CEO and other spokespersons.• Acting as brand custodian and provision of communications and marketing support to all parts of the organisation.• Programming and planning for our flagship fundraising event, the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.• 'Other duties as may be required'. ACH Group is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a wide range of aged care services across metropolitan Adelaide, Fleurieu Peninsula and east Melbourne.The organisation's vision is to support "Good Lives for Older People".My role of Communications Advisor saw me involved in a broad range of projects, developing content for a variety of media to position ACH Group as the aged care provider of choice.I was able to do this by effectively managing relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that I was aware of what was occurring within the organisation, along with the sector more broadly. I was responsible for authoring the written content for the organisation's Annual Report, copywriting for brochures and radio and press advertisements, was a contributing writer to our Good Lives publication, and regularly wrote and pitched media releases. I was the go-to person for MC and speech notes, number one proof reader, incessant googler and I rarely approached a new project or task without asking "but why?" My knack for being able to break complex material into easily digested information for a variety of audiences was well utilised.Event management formed a significant part of my role, for both internal events catering up to 400 staff members, and external events and expos that showcased ACH Group services. My role also involved managing internal communications, which included the development of effective communication strategies to ensure relevant information was provided in a timely manner to some 1,700 staff in various roles across South Australia and Victoria.An aspect of my role I really enjoyed was connecting with customers, discovering their stories and sharing them, demonstrating that our perceptions of ageing and what it means to be "old" are rarely accurate.
