Jody Devlin is a Roller Mill Operator at SAF-HOLLAND Inc.. Colleagues describe them as "As the Manufacturing Manager of the SAF-Holland North plant, and Jody’s immediate supervisor, I worked with Jody for over 5 years. Jody started his employment with the company as a metal cutting band saw operator, and due to his mechanical abilities and a positive attitude, he quickly advanced to the lead position of that department. As opportunities to advance to higher job classifications became available, he applied for, and was accepted into the position of a Roller-die Mill Operator second class. As a mill operator, he learned how to set-up and operate several of the mills in the plant, and ultimately received the classification of Roller-die General. When the need for a shop floor supervisor came up, I approached Jody to consider taking this position. Out of the work force of over 80 employees, I felt that Jody was most qualified. Jody was well received by the other floor supervisors, and developed the skills necessary to become an effective leader. When placed on the second shift with another supervisor, he enforced company policy, improved productivity, and made the second shift a more dependable and reliable work force. Jody was moved to the first shift to help develop an assembly line that was new to the company. This new line soon represented the largest sector of business for our plant, its performance was critical to the origination. I feel Jody’s efforts made a significant contribution the successful start-up of this operation. Jody would come to work more than an hour early, and often stay late, with out pay, to ensure the operation was running smoothly. He also studied his workforce, matching employee’s abilities with the tasks that they were best suited to perform. To conclude, I found Jody to be a very bright and energetic employee, capable of being successful in any role or task given to him. I very much enjoyed the opportunity to work with him.
