This was done via a follow up survey with a small percentage of people that originally completed the Census form on Census night. What we would do is compare the answers on the follw up test to what was originally reported. If the follow up test indicated that someone was not home on Census night, we would need to see if they were counted elsewhere. The main reason for this is that the Census data is used to determine electoral areas etc. If they did a follow up survey on 1% of an area (normal number of household 100,000) and 25 people were found as not being included in original data, this could make a difference of over two thousand people. This could be the difference in having an extra teacher or doctor allocated to an area. This work was mostly done manually, by searching through millions of Census forms until you either found what you were looking for or determined it did not exist Show less
