My greatest passion is taking difficult, complex, highly emotionally charged and challenging topics, wrapping them up in personally compelling stories that disarm, engage, entertain, educate, and through that, motivating my audiences to take action. My mission in life is to spread understanding of the importance of children's mental health awareness and youth suicide prevention in order to help our youth get the emotional support and improved access to mental health services they need. We can't do that unless we can talk about it, at levels of public discourse. Sometimes it's hard to get that conversation started. And getting the conversation started is my specialty. In my professional and freelance work I have trained, spoken to, or provided presentations for dozens of groups across Michigan. Some of my audiences:• Lansing Police Department Ingham County Sheriff's Office• Girl Scout Troops• CMHA-CEI Clinicians and Executive Board• Ionia County CMH Clinical and non-clinical staff• Multiple School Districts (15+) • Barry Eaton Health Department• Ingham County DHHS• DHHS Statewide Foster Care Workers Conference• The Michigan Association of School NursesCommunity Mental Health Association of MichiganI have also been a professor at Michigan State University, where I taught courses on crisis intervention and risk assessment to both students and practicing therapists through MSU’s Graduate School of Social Worker’s Department of Continuing Education.
