Create and analyze 3-D biomaterial perivascular cell niches for studying glioblastomas (GBMs). Exposed glioblastoma cells to environmental stresses to understand drug exposure and resistance. Through our research we are engineering biomaterial perivascular cell niches that can resemble tumor microenvironments (TME) where we can more clearly study GBMs interactions with Temozolomide (TMZ) through resistance, invasion, migration, and expression. The hydrogel-variant biomaterial that is used in glioblastoma research and for our study has been shown in other studies and our own studies to heighten malignant behavior and create an environment where we can more clearly evaluate phenotypic changes. The biomaterial creates an environment where the tumors behavior can be heightened because it acts as a chemical medium that is similar enough to the compositional chemistry of the brain scaffolding. Glioblastomas are the most common and deadly type of brain cancer with a 15-month survival rate and with only 5% of patients living past 5 years from diagnosis. There is a critical need for therapeutic approaches that can target diffuse GBM cells to give patients more treatment options.

Being involved in IBI lab hours provides students with a hands-on approach of biodiesel research and processing and informs students on how biodiesel and soap is made and tested. Being involved in these lab hours builds a basis for research experience which can be applied to a varying amount of fields.

The goal of the lab is to further our understanding of the volitional control of compensatory postural responses and contribute to the existing body of fall prevention research in older adults. We use state-of-the-art motion capture, equipment for biomechanical measures, and non-invasive brain imaging to simultaneously record movements and brain activity during functional whole body movements. Using interdisciplinary approaches, our lab examines the underlying behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying postural dysfunction in older adults with neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis to identify prospective behavioral and neural biomarkers of neurological disorders and motor impairment. I use programming tools to analysis and process data recorded from human subjects.
