Served as the Business Unit Lead and Project Manager leading a team of over 80 information technology professionals executing a software development and sustainment project. Responsibility in this role included the entire lifecycle of the software applications and related systems from customer liaison and requirement definition through development, test, release, engineering and customer support. Managed a team dispersed at five different geographic locations and also serves as the local leader for the Norfolk, VA location serving about 100 employees.

30 years on active duty as a Naval Officer and Naval Aviator culminating in the rank of Captain (O-6). Command, operational, training and staff assignments including service on ships and in aircraft carrier based squadrons deploying throughout the world. Over 3000 hours of flight experience in tactical aircraft with leadership roles in aircraft and ship operations, aircraft maintenance and principle assistant for safety. Chief Executive Officer equivalent leading a crew of 2900 operating and maintaining a nuclear powered aircraft carrier worth over $6 billion with asset inventory of $230 million. Responsible for strategic vision, tactical execution, safety and well-being of the crew and up to 5000 embarked personnel and an annual budget of $37 million. Oversaw the surface and aviation operations of the ship, the operation of the nuclear power plant and the maintenance of the 100,000 ton capital warship. Led this complex organization through an entire operational cycle to include a seven month deployment to the Arabian Sea and Arabian Gulf. During two years of almost continuous operations careful stewardship led to an energy savings of 14 percent. Recognized in 2009 and 2010 as the Atlantic Fleet’s best aircraft carrier. During final months of tour expertly managed a $290 million dry-docked maintenance and modernization package by developing a cohesive and diverse project team of ship personnel, shipyard leaders, shipyard tradesmen and nearly a dozen other companies doing contracted project work.

CEO level responsibility for operations and maintenance of a 15,000 ton ship and the training and welfare of a crew of 400 and up to 350 Marines. Managed over $70 million in asset inventory and an annual budget of nearly $6 million. Immediate impact mentoring an inexperienced team that had not deployed in over two years and leading them to success during deployed operations in the Arabian Gulf with a flawless safety and operations record. Managed an $11 million repair and modernization period in the shipyard completing on time and on budget to prepare the ship for reassignment to the forward deployed naval forces in Sasebo, Japan.

Chief Operating Officer equivalent responsible to the Commanding Officer for daily execution of the mission of an aircraft carrier and the morale and welfare of the crew during deployment preparations, deployment to the Arabian Gulf and an extensive maintenance period. Ship recognized as the finest in the Pacific Fleet in 2005. Daily duties included ensuring over 5000 embarked Sailors and Marines were provided with a safe working and living environment and all the services expected in a small city. Formed and led a team of 18 major department heads that supported the commander in daily execution of a full spectrum of maritime operations.

Commanded an FA-18 squadron of 12 aircraft, 18 pilots and 200 support personnel through operations in Southwest Asia. Responsible on a daily basis for policy, training, operations, maintenance and a $5 million operating budget. Flawless safety record achieved through a continuous risk management program. Immediate impact improving aircraft maintenance readiness; aircraft availability for training and operations improved almost 66 percent within a few weeks of reporting. Prior to assuming Commanding Officer role served as the Executive Officer for 15 months.

Served on a multi-service and multi-national staff with portfolio for communications policy. Built a team of experts that conducted daily coordination with military and civilian staff officers from 16 NATO nations and others throughout the world on communications equipment design standards, spectrum management and satellite deployment policy. Results achieved by this diverse group of multi-national experts included reducing spectrum conflict and harmful interference and improving utilization of communications satellites and link systems.
