Joe is currently the Jeffrey R. Jay Accounting & Finance Chair at Saint John's High School. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Trustees at the Massachusetts Biomedical Initiative (MBI), where he also serves as the Director for the BOLT initiative. He is also an advisor to AccuTec and Boardwalk Robotics, and is on the Board of Directors of ZATA Pharmaceuticals and Immertec. He previously served as a strategic consultant for Vicarious Surgical.Prior to moving into a teaching role, Joe was the President of Scapa Healthcare and a member of the Board of Directors of Scapa Group, a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange AIM. While at Scapa, he oversaw a B2B business ($200M P&L) focused on developing and manufacturing medical devices and consumer wellness products for global market leaders. Scapa Group was sold to SWM in April 2021 for $550M.Before joining Scapa in 2019, Joe was the President of Olympus Surgical Technologies America, overseeing a $500M P&L and the development, manufacturing, and repair of devices for many surgical specialties including Urology, Gynecology, Ear Nose & Throat, Gastroenterology, and General Surgery. Joe also spent 24 years with Johnson & Johnson. In his last assignment with J&J, he was the Vice President of Integration and Transformation, responsible for integrating the $20B acquisition of Synthes into J&J while also serving as a member of the Executive Team of DePuy Synthes, a $10B Orthopedic and Neuro device company.While at J&J, Joe was also the Head of Global R&D for the Neurosurgical and Neurovascular Franchise. He was a member of the worldwide management board, responsible for the global neurosurgical/neurovascular portfolio of (Class 1,2,3) products used for the treatment of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, hydrocephalus, pain, and spasticity.Joe began his career at J&J as a manufacturing supervisor for orthopedic implants and progressed through different management roles in operations until eventually being named as the Head of Global Operations, and member of the worldwide management board, for the Neuro Franchise. During this time he became a certified Black Belt.He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (West Point) with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and served 8 years of active/reserve duty in the United States Army, retiring as a Captain. He also has an MBA from Nichols College.
