Many schools continue to use unscrupulous recruiting practices, and many have simply shifted the burden of recruitment to other departments within the facility. Additionally, many schools, mostly in the for profit sector, are centralizing the certification process leaving either a financial aid or academic office with little or no knowledge of your benefits, or they simply leave you to fend for yourself. When this happens and you make the wrong move, many times this will delay the process and have a negative effect on your school being paid, which can lead to registration holds to say the least, creating frustration to you, but more importantly have a negative effect on your own finances. Direct a Financial Aid staff of 10 members, Federal Work Study and VA Work Study employees through day to day tasks and responsibilities. Create, negotiate and finalize student financial plans consistent with planning policies and procedures in accordance with Federal/State regulations for awarding aid. Counsel students on loan approvals or denials, scholarships, grants and other options related directly to the student financial plan. Assist and certify veterans with VA benefits and military tuition assistance. Collaborate efforts with Academic Deans, Registrar and Academic Advisors to confirm continuing students' academic progress and with Directors of Admissions and Admissions Advisors in order to facilitate outstanding service to prospective students and their families. Process and distribute refunds, assist students with scholarships, grants, and other financial assistance as required. Assure compliance with regulatory affairs through audits of financial aid and student accounts. Accomplishments:Work closely with about 700 new, continuing and resuming students as well as their families and ensure individual plans or re-plans continue to best meet the families' needs. Administer corporate tuition assistance programs in conjunction with students, employers and all branches of military service. Maximized Bellevue veteran student enrollment from (5) five to more than 60 and increased Federal Way from 200 veteran students to over 500. Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in veteran's affairs benefits information, processing and VA certification by state regulatory agencies.Established and maintain long term relations with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Higher Education Coordinating Board, WorkForce Training and Education Coordinating Board. Initiated a relationship with WorkSource, Veterans Employment Division to ensure that returning military veterans are able to find suitable employment or education upon their return home from deployment.
