I have over 30 years of experience in the design, planning, and operation of transportation facilities for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. My design experience includes intersections, traffic control devices, traffic signal systems, work zone traffic control, and construction phasing on projects performed throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Many of these projects were CDOT Local Agency projects following state and federal guidelines. I have performed planning studies for developments, corridor access control, corridor studies, and subarea plans. In addition, I have also has performed railroad quiet zone studies. My operations experience includes traffic signal timing, maintenance of traffic control devices, and crash studies. I have a unique knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices having been a technical committee member of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for many years.Sustainable Traffic Solutions, Inc. (STS) is a Westminster, Colorado based firm that was founded in 2009 to provide traffic engineering and transportation planning services to municipal, DOT, and development clients in Colorado and Wyoming.

The purpose of the Advisory Board is to foster an ever higher level of excellence in the University of Wyoming’s Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering. The Board accomplishes this by catalyzing increased interaction between students, faculty, and the larger engineering community; providing input on academic issues, especially those related to ABET accreditation; supporting the promotion and development of the education programs and facilities in the Department; recognizing significant achievements of Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering alumni and supporters; and assisting in fund-raising activities.

I worked at SEH for almost 12 years performing traffic engineering and transportation planning services in Colorado and Wyoming. My clients included municipalities, contractors, CDOT, and WYDOT. My roles included design and analysis, business development, and project management.

I designed traffic signals and highway lighting, conducted traffic studies, managed traffic data collection projects, and marketed services for the company.

I marketed Econolite traffic signal equipment in Colorado and Wyoming, and provided support to customers. Sold the closed loop signal system to the City of Longmont, developed the controller databases, and assisted with the implementation of the system. Assisted municipalities and contractors with the turn-on of traffic signal equipment that I supplied.

I was the Director of the FHWA sponsored Technology Transfer Center in Iowa. In this role, I developed and taught classes to professionals on transportation and traffic-related subjects. I also worked with local municipalities and counties in an outreach role to help them answer operation and maintenance questions.I helped to start the Wyoming Technology Transfer Center when I was a graduate student at the University of Wyoming.

I was the City Traffic Engineer for this city of 50,000 people for five years. My responsibilities included the daily operation and maintenance of signs, signals, pavement markings, and parking. I operated two signal systems during the five years. The first was a central system that utilized CATV for communication, and the second was an Econolite closed loop signal system which replaced the central system. I participated in the design and construction observation for the closed loop signal system as well as other public works projects.
