At the age of 21 I was sentenced to 13 years in prison for directing a criminal enterprise. During my time in prison, I was fortunate to meet a billionaire as a cellmate who challenged my perceptions and attitudinal outlook on life. He not only taught me accounting and business but also the value of education, and most importantly he taught me about self-worth from a prison cell. From directing a criminal enterprise, today I’m the Founder and CEO of a social enterprise (Confit) and a NFP (Confit Pathways) where I teach that sense of self worth to inmates to thrive in society. My mission is to help reduce recidivism in Australia and create employment and education opportunities for individuals existing the justice system by breaking down societies pre-conceived notions of inmate stereotypes and providing community support through mentors with lived prison experience.I’ve been using fitness to create a platform to bridge the social gap between former inmates and the wider society. I trained to be free in jail and today I help people from all walks of life train to be free, not just in society but also in custody. I run fitness prison escape workshops for corporates, sporting teams and schools and have been working with companies like Google, Westpac and Atlassian, coaching organisations to stay physically and mentally positive throughout any situation.
