Mobile Power, a green energy company operating in Sub-Saharan Africa providing battery rentals with in-house designed equipment to off-grid communities. Responsible for full product design of batteries, charging equipment and accessories. It is my responsibility to take products from the design brief right through to full scale manufacturing working closely with overseas factories. Highlights so far include: • Complete redesign of core product: MOPO50, a 50Wh rentable power bank with built in lantern. New features included impact protection, waterproofing, improved lantern and a reduced part count • Full ground up design of MOPOMax: a 1kWh rentable portable battery pack designed to operate as a replacement for ICE generators and forming the battery pack in small EVs • Concept design of multiple MOPOMax accessories forming part of feasibility studies into future product developments • Advising on and helping to implement a PDM and revision system for historical and new designs • Redrawing and documenting historical designs and BOMs

Working within innovation team on new product development within mechanical seal and support system industry. Role has included: • Concept design and development• Design for manufacture• Patent writing• Testing and procurement

3-month placement. Design work included – product research, concept sketch work, 2D Photoshop renderings, producing product presentation material, CAD modelling (Solidworks), reverse engineering, finishing and painting FDM rapid prototypes. Greatly improved my design skills as well as gaining insight into how in house design is managed. Also improved my team-work and time management, enabling me to work efficiently within a design team. Continued occasional work after placement producing and finishing rapid prototype models.
