I started with one pickup truck back in 1977 and now am leading an organization creating world-class sport field systems. How did I go from that humble start to CEO and founder of the world-renowned sports field design/build organization we are today? After several years of struggle and head knocks I began learning what it means to “let go.” I gave up on my go-to sugar “high” which was contributing to my rising blood pressure and switching it out with a healthier replacement.This personal mindfulness around “letting go” gradually led to my making incremental improvements in the workplace, which were picked up on by my team.However, the greatest limiter to our growth was me. I had to look in the mirror and admit I didn’t have to be the smartest person in the room.As a perfectionist unpacking my leadership style of “command and control” was the hardest thing for me to take off, but this personal vulnerability has been the lynchpin to becoming who we are today.A high culture organization of employee-owners whose purpose it is to “Move People to Better Lives” through the creation of innovative sports fields and leisure spaces for communities around the world. Joe knows that “Together We Will Go Further” which is how our 2021 event was born. The event of the year is Cycle Ohio, a bike ride across the state of Ohio taking place this fall. -
