SapperUs Army 2011 - PresentI am a US Army SAPPER, I am also a Noncommissioned Officer, as part of my job I am responsible for caring for and training soldiers. The types of training taught varies from weapons skills, disarm techniques, hand to hand combat, advanced demolitions, urban operations, counter IED operations, small unit tactics, survival skills, physical training and much, much more. I am good at what I do because I understand that I will never know it all and will need to keep learning. Anyone who thinks their way is the only way is not only dangerously wrong but also stating that their knowledge is out of date.As a Combat Engineer I deployed as part of 4th brigade combat team 1st cavalry division’s primary brigade combat assured mobility and counter IED element for the Laghman province Area of Operation. We conducted route clearance operations; IED defeat operations; demolition operations; provided over watch for emplacement of culvert denial systems; conducted presence patrols; provided spear head movement for Security Forces Assistant Teams (SFAT) and command unit movement; responded to UXO and IED 9 line reports; provided assistance and over watch for Brigade EOD asset; worked as force protection on none mission days; spear headed 2/12 Cavalry and Afghan National Army (ANA) missions; provided convoy protection for Combat Outpost XIO HAQ construction supply acquisitions; worked as 2/12 Cavalry’s Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and also 2/12 Cavalry’s commanding officer’s Personal Security Detail (PSD); Conducted alternate route and bridge reconnaissance throughout 4th Brigade Combat Teem 1st Cavalry Divisions Area of Operations. Conducted security and over-watch for COP expansion efforts, worked as 2/7 Cavalry’s QRF. Deployed as Special Forces QRF, Route Clearance and main Recovery asset. Conducted Room Clearing Procedures and Cleared Afghan government compounds of any potential explosive hazards. Conducted Route Exploration Operations in Enemy controlled areas.
