At Oyster I worked within a team to complete the commissioning process of several yachts. This would involve a far-reaching series of tests covering all aspects of the yacht to complete a meticulous quality control build log. We were also deeply involved in preparing 8 different vessels to exceptionally high standards for a private viewing in London’s St Katherine Docks.

I have just finished my second summer season with Neilson Active Holidays having been promoted to skipper after one season as a mate. As a flotilla skipper I have the opportunity to sail a variety of yachts; Moody, Dufour, Beneteau, Jeanneau, ranging from 31ft to 39.I lead up to 13 yachts on a varied route around the Northern Ionian. Together with my crew of an Engineer and Mate I am responsible for daily mooring assistance, repair and maintenance of the fleet, briefings and local area information, socialising and customer care. When not on flotilla I teach RYA Keel Boat level 1-2 to guests of all ages and abilities.Along with the sailing experience gained I was also involved with preparing the yachts at the beginning of the season and taking them out of the water at the end of the season. As Neilson owns such a variety of yachts I was faced with a variety of problems to overcome. Also as they have such a big fleet it meant I became very efficient at tasks such as winch servicing etc.In my second season I was assigned a team to manage with the task of getting several yachts ready for the guests. This again gave me an insight into how different systems work on a variety of yacht design.
