• Clients site inspector at NLI, Larvik, Norway during construction of BP Greater Plutonia Block 18 subsea manifolds and umbilical/flowline/jumper termination heads.

• Engaged as client inspector carrying out surveillance and inspection during the manufacture of super duplex tubes at Sandvik in the Czech Republic and Canada, and DMV in Italy.• Projects include Canyon Express (BP, Marathon & Elf), EPS-Zafiro, Kizomba A & B and South Diana (Exxon Mobil), Malampaya & Conga (Shell) this included monitoring and checking the heat treatment parameters, ultrasonic, eddy current, penetrant and radiography testing, welding, pressure testing, final bench inspection and review of mechanical test results and final certification packages.• Surveillance and inspection during the manufacture of subsea umbilicals at Kvaerner, Moss, Nexans, Halden in Norway and Angoflex, Lobito in Angola. This included monitoring layup, extrusion, welding, NDT and FAT. This work also involved vendor visits to component manufacturers in the UK including JDR, Ely, and Halliburton in Aberdeen.

• Pipework and plant inspection and identifying areas on pipework and vessels for corrosion/erosion surveys at T.C.O. oil refinery at Tengiz in Kazakhstan.

• Inspection coordinator/supervisor on BP ETAP and Shell Shearwater projects at AMEC, Newcastle, working with QA/QC department implementing codes and standards, identifying class of weld for extent of inspection, supervising NDT, preheats and post weld heat treatment during structural and pipework construction, assessing NDT results and vetting subsequent reports.

• Inspection and NDT during offshore pipework fabrication at AMEC Sunderland. Duties consisted of checking and identifying welding consumables, pipes and fittings as they enter stores, inspection and NDT of welding procedures, welder approval tests and completed spools and putting together documentation packages.

• Welding inspection, ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant inspection during the construction and installation of jackets and modules for Heerema at Vlissingen, Holland and on their heavy lifting crane vessels in the North Sea.

• Ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant inspection during maintenance surveys at Bradwell nuclear power station and during offshore module construction at AMEC Newcastle.

• Short-term contracts for these two companies carrying out maintenance inspection and insurance surveys on chemical plants, refineries and CEGB power stations.

• Conducted a base line survey on pipework for oil well water injection systems for Phillips Petroleum on Stord Island, Norway. Carried out ultrasonic inspections on welded nodes for Marathon’s Brae ‘B’ jacket at Antwerp, Belgium. Carried out radiography of pipework during the construction of a chemical plant in Finland and the laying of a pipeline between Malmo and Gothenburg in Sweden. During the construction of wind turbine generating structures in Aalborg and Skagen, Denmark, my duties, being the sole inspector on site, included inspection of fit ups and weld preparations, welder audits, consumable monitoring, final visual inspection, ultrasonic inspection, magnetic particle inspection, monitoring repairs being carried out and the preparation of inspection reports.

• Ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant inspection on projects at Haverton Hill, Middlesborough (British Gas and Mobil modules), Nigg Bay (Conoco TLP) and Newcastle (BP, Occidental, Shell Conoco and Hamilton Bros modules).

• Welding inspection and NDT on various short-term contracts in the Teesside area and British Gas installations in the North West of England.

January ’81 – February ’81• Successfully completed a six-week advanced ultrasonic course specialising in weld examination of all configurations up to CSWIP standard.

• Radiography and MPI at Cleveland Bridge Offshore (Middlesborough), CEGB power stations (Thorpe Marsh and Ferrybridge) and the Humber Bridge project.

• Successfully completed a three-month course at Stockton and Billingham College, which covered welding inspection and NDT to British Gas standards.

• Seven years experience, including a five-year apprenticeship, in a wide range of welding techniques on fabrication and maintenance projects.
