About Joe Sensor
I tend to be much less of a traditional music teacher, especially as I notice new trends with students. I am always in favor of finding music and styles of teaching that reach all students. We have very non-traditional mixed and non-leveled small "lesson" groups for our band students, which causes a completely different approach to small group instruction. Technology plays a large part in my classroom and I keep on top of trends through social and professional networking and reading as much as humanly possible in my field. I have conducted several workshops and trainings at the local, state and national levels, including PAMMLE, PMEA and Little Kids Rock.As far as choosing ensemble music I don't like trendy composers or focusing on programming pieces of music that might impress peers. I like to make sure that when we perform music it can be perfected, and I would rather hear a perfected grade 1 piece than a piece that is too far above the student's ability that sounds less polished and might lead to a performance experience that is not a positive experience.I have become highly involved in the non-profit world over the past few years, helping our local community theater by not only music-directing shows, but by creating and maintaining our online presence, social media promotions, online ticketing and other tech needs. I also serve on the board and as president, helped secure $400,000 in funding for a new building project, as well as numerous smaller grants.
