Restriction on VOC in solvent based product is being enforced world wide including China, demand for VOC <70 gm or zero voc by using VOC exempted solvent will increased. VOC contribute to rising smog in cities with more vehicles that pour out exhaust gas. I too is concerned of such problem.I embark on development for low VOC and VOC free products for few years now,In the contact adhesive area, no water based product can replace solvent based contact adhesive. Most if all contact adhesives use polychloroprene that cannot dissolved in VOC exempted solvent. I have just successfully developed a wide range of solvent based with VOC <70 and also VOC free contact adhesive that has superior adhesion even on stainless steel than polychloroprene based adhesives. The raw material cost is also lower than polychloroprene based adhesives. As the result of this breakthrough several other construction adhesives has formulated with VOC < 70C that can even be extruded easily from cartridges at -15 C. this is just the beginning in revamping formulation of contact adhesives that can help to reduce smog specially in big cities.
