Working across the company's suite of iOS and Android apps, including:• A digital reimagining of the noted reference work Birds of the Western Palearctic: over 10,000 species, 20,000 images and five million words of text; including macOS Catalyst support• Worked on right-to-left language support with the Arabic version of Birds of the Middle East• Created an in-house backend and RESTful JSON API to support serving streaming videos in-app• Designed and engineered a new native version of an existing bird sightings app in BirdGuides, and did the same for a brand new bird listings app in Life List by NatureGuides• Taught myself Android development in both Kotlin and Java in order to maintain two apps on the Play Store

Multiple updates to the popular word game from the QI Elves. Included a major redesign in 2022 where I pitched, designed and engineered big improvements to the scoring and onboarding systems amongst much else.

Assisted with the migration of the Barefoot World Atlas app from another developer account. Worked with a designer on a major UI refresh, and dramatically decreased the size of the app bundle using On Demand Resources

Worked on numerous best-selling apps for iOS at every stage of the development cycle, including:• Client and server-side work on the Henle sheet music reader and store and the subscription- based Juilliard Open Studios• Lead engineer on substantial updates to Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Disney Animated and more• Other challenges included a mission-critical migration to Parse Server hosted on AWS, and creating a prototype physics game for a new client in just two weeks

Worked regularly on all aspects of the software development process working on internal tools: design and requirements-capture, programming, testing, deployment and support. As Product Owner I liaised with customers and stakeholders, took the lead on long-running stability, support and design issues, and assumed responsibility for the delivery and deployment of missing-critical software updates.

When the iPad was first released I was struck by the device’s untapped potential for storytelling. I was inspired to teach myself programming, creating a pair of military history themed apps with my father that were sold on the App Store until 2018.Freelance work in this time included an independent publisher’s fairytale story app – The Waking Prince – and a bespoke travel guide for a NATO army group.
