About Joe W. Ramos, Phd
Dr. Ramos is the Director of LSU LCMC health Cancer Center & the Director and CEO of the Louisiana Cancer Research Center. There he works with an outstanding team to reduce the high burden of cancer across Louisiana and the gulf by strategically aligning and enhancing the efforts of the faculty, staff and students of the LCRC corporate members: LSU, Tulane, Xavier, and Ochsner. His research interests in cancer invasion and metastasis. His lab’s mission is to determine the underlying mechanisms that control cancer cell invasion and to exploit this knowledge in drug development. Currently he and his team is examining the dysregulation of cell signaling in glioblastoma, skin cancer, and kidney cancer and developing drugs to block growth and invasion of these tumors. Leadership Style: Servant leadership. His guiding principles are leadership with vision, integrity, humility, transparency, and open communication in alignment with financially sound strategic planning born of shared values and mission. This forms the foundation for a positive organizational culture.

As Deputy Director, Dr. Ramos advises the Director and provides leadership in strategic planning, program oversight and development, and determining the scientific direction of the UHCC. He assumes all roles of the director as needed. He fosters productive interactions with the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, UH leadership, the Hawaii State Legislature, UHCC Donors, and the Hawaii Cancer Consortium. He serves as chair of the UHCC membership committee and coordinates the activities of the affinity groups. He also oversees the educational activities of the UHCC.

As Associate Director for Administration, Dr. Ramos reports directly to the UHCC Director and leads the seven Administrative departments (Fiscal, IT, Communications, Human Resources, Facilities, Compliance, Grants). The ADA is ultimately responsible for maintaining UHCC finances and infrastructure to maximize effective and efficient achievement of UHCC research, education and clinical goals. The ADA leads the Cancer Center Support Grant (P30 CCSG) application development and yearly progress reports. The ADA also organizes the yearly CCSG EAC visits and works with the Director and senior leadership to develop materials for these. These responsibilities are facilitated through ADA membership in the UHCC Senior Leadership, Community Advisory, and Operations Committees.
