Senior Software Engineer

Simmtronic Ltd

For the past few years, I have been concentrating almost entirely upon systems development at Simmtronic. I have been responsible for the entire life-cycle from initial concept, through design and development to final testing and implementation. My main job has been the development of a series of about 75 Lighting Control Modules, all based on Microchip PIC hardware, for which I have written the firmware in C and assembler. These are critically important products for Simmtronic Ltd, whose business is lighting control systems.I also pioneered the automatic testing of emergency lighting systems using DALI self-contained emergency lighting control gear. This development was in Visual C++ for a platform using Windows XP embedded.I am an active member of TC34C, a technical committee of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) responsible for the development of the DALI standards for lighting controls.I have developed numerous applications in Visual Basic, not only for commercial use but also for test harnesses, simulators, trace analysers, etc., and also designed and built various small pieces of test equipment for in-house use.In conjunction with all that, I have done research into rates of change of natural light intensity and how best to adjust the rates of change of artificial lighting power so as to optimise energy-saving without distracting the occupants of a building from their work.
