I have spent the past 30 years in the design world. Most of that time has been in Architecture firms, while some of it has been in other types of companies. My primary focus has been on the production side of the design; I have used every version of AutoCAD from release 2.5 to the present. I currently do most of my design work in AutoDesk Architecture 2012. In several firms I have configured the profiles for placing CAD into production during upgrades and maintained these customizations throughout the use of the product. I am very pleased with the convergence of design & production. I have believed for a long time that the future of the profession was for the designer and producer to be one; the hybrid of production and design is a natural progression. Our office is focused on the BIM movement and trying to define how we will apply this to our mode of operation. It is an exciting time for anyone in design. So many advances are really solid now.In the past 4 years with Turner, I have gained experience with Navisworks, expanded my skill with Revit, and applied my knowlege of Civil 3D to the Ft Benning project. I hope to take these enhancements to the wider company as time goes on.I'm now the National CAD Manager at Pultegroup. I'm part of a team providing guidance, support and planning for the production groups of the corporation. I provide support for coordinating, analyzing, reporting, and maintaining the BIM file database. We collect the model files from all design consultants and create coordination models using Navisworks to check visual coordination, examine design issues, produce clash detection reports and collaborate solutions to issues and clashes. We will also connect the model data to our construction schedule & accounting systems to create 4d and 5d scheduling opportunities. We will plan to use the BIM data to assist our safety officers by providing safety zone mapping and illustrations to support a safe construction site.The goal is to apply the BIM Geodesign method to all aspects of this project management and execution as possible. This project will be used to gather proof data of the effectiveness and efficiency of the BIM construction approach and continue the learning curve of best practices using BIM.As the construction moved toward completion, I became involved in the punchlist process. I was assigned to oversee several subcontractors including the elevator contractor and tile contractor. I picked up a new skills in QA/QC of tile and elevator systems. We tracked the punclist using BIM 360 Field. During the bulk of construction, we used this to track Work To Complete issues; it provided a central point for all to use to see the progress and a common language with which to close out issues. -
