Joe provides a unique mix of leading and completing technical multimodal traffic analysis while empowering public and stakeholder engagement. This project management experience helps select transportation options that reflect each community’s needs and values. Joe’s hands-on experience doesn’t just include leading specific traffic engineering tasks but also having an active role in the technical modeling as well. He specializes in visualization and simulation of 4D multimodal traffic simulation and is proficient in the use of Vissim and other traffic analysis software. His experience in traffic and transportation engineering, includes safety, modeling, freeways, areawide planning studies, multimodal corridors, light rail and BRT projects, sports stadiums, and many others. Joe’s past responsibilities have included working on intersection, corridor, roundabout, and freeway alternative traffic operations and safety analysis. He specializes in the visualization and simulation of 4D multimodal traffic flows and is proficient in the use of VISSIM, CORSIM, VISTRO, Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software (HCS), and ArcGIS. Joe’s VISSIM experience and recommendations have led to MnDOT traffic staff adapting modeling requirements to include lane by lane analysis, including surrogate safety (SSAM) through modeling as an proactive safety approach, and identifying the benefits of daily 24-hour modeling results.Joe is nationally recognized for Vissim microsimulation modeling, having presented more than a dozen times on his modeling capabilities, including five separate occasions at the PTV User’s Group meeting. Joe has also been an active member of ITE, NCITE, and GLITE over the past 11 years. Joe was the NCITE Simulations and Capacity Chair and Co-chair from 2016-2017, 2018 ITE Annual Meeting LAC, NCITE director in 2019, and part of the 2022 Great Lakes Annual Meeting LAC.
