Characterized, validated and developed algorithms used in software for processing data from Sciex mass spectrometers. Worked on Protein Pilot, a proteomics application, BioPharmaView, a biologics analysis application and Oneomics, a cloud-resident proteomics application.

Part of a team developing the next generation of software for thermal performance monitoring of rotating equipment.• Prototyped various approaches to handle performance calculations in C#, focusing on maintainability, extensibility and customization aspects.• Wrote tools to convert existing Visual Basic code into Java and C#.• Worked with the subject matter experts to clarify what calculations were needed, what analytics were possible, and what strategies could be used for predictive modeling.

Led the integration of KNIME (a third party Eclipse RCP workflow manager/data analysis tool) with PerkinElmer software. • Conceived, developed and managed the PerkinElmer Extensions for KNIME product, which were delivered on time as part of a million dollar sale. • Directed a geographically diverse product team, with members in California, Massachusetts, Costa Rica, Germany, India and Japan. • Developed KNIME nodes in Java, with JNI-binding to C++ libraries. This allowed easy exposure of PerkinElmer core chemistry capabilities within KNIME. • Worked with customers (internal and external) to define product requirements and support sales efforts. This helped establish a new customer and introduce new offerings to another. • Collaborated with QA teams to ensure thorough testing of the PerkinElmer KNIME product.

Extended and enhanced core capabilities in chemical structure representation and manipulation. • Key member of a team extending capabilities to store, search and manipulate large biomolecules. • Authored a program suite to parse UniProt XML files and translate the protein structures they contained into the MDL structure format. The suite contains a Java driver, a core Cheshire component and a Perl module which reads an ontology file and produces additional Cheshire code. The resulting database was used for testing search, storage and structure representation. • Spearheaded a project to produce a Symyx add-on to the KNIME workflow manager. Developed the project from inception through initial approvals, prototype demonstrations, customer evaluation, initial release, and subsequent 1.1 and 2.0 releases. • Developed KNIME nodes in Java, using an existing OO-Java interface to our core libraries. This provided customers with new access to our core chemistry capabilities. • Worked with QA, educated team on new code features, helped develop tests and reviewed results. • Co-developer and maintainer of the “Connection Table Library”, approximately 125,000 lines of C++ code used for chemical structure manipulation, storage and retrieval, as well as Layout Library, approximately 20,000 lines of Fortran code used for 2D chemical structure layout. • Created and maintained the ChrpWiki, a widely used internal Wiki focused on topics of interest to the Chemical Representations group at Symyx.
