Responsible Engineer (Re)
CurrentAREVA Inc. was acquired by EDF and changed its name to Framatome Inc.The RE is the technical leadership in a commercial nuclear plant design modification engineering project who is responsible for coordinating multiple engineering disciplines to deliver the full contracted scope in accordance with the client’s (the utility) processes and procedures. The RE works closely with project management and serves as the single technical interface between the client’s project leadership and engineering / licensing. Fundamentally, the RE is responsible for owning the entire contracted deliverable and must remain cognizant of the state of the design effort for all disciplines at all times. This includes resource oversight and support, knowing how, where, and when to pull in additional support from the plant or Framatome, working directly with resource management for all disciplines, coordinating training, acknowledging resource achievements, and even protecting resources from the unnecessary amidst client demands. The RE must understand what the client's expectations are for each deliverable (i.e. 30%, 60%, 90%, final, etc.), ultimately populating the content of the Engineering Change (EC) or Design Change (DC) package which includes the primary write-up, all affected engineering design documents, all document and equipment database updates, updates to licensing documents, and supporting documentation. The RE is responsible for keeping project management and the client informed of all the relevant project details and issues, knowing the tremendous amount of tribal knowledge that the client operates under, and ensuring safety, quality, performance, delivery, transparency, reputation is maintained, scope boundaries do not creep, and that all parties communicate effectively at all times.

Mechanical And Electrical Design Engineer
As a part of the Steam Generating Team (SGT), I was deployed to the commercial nuclear plant Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) as a mechanical design engineer to repair the plant after a major industrial accident in which a 529 ton stator was dropped during replacement. The drop resulted in significant damage to the structure, high voltage electrical equipment, and mechanical systems in which I provided both mechanical and electrical design engineering support. As a part of a limited team of personnel, SGT responded to this accident without preparation, executed without injury despite a very unsafe environment, and successfully repaired the plant in only four months.
Mechanical Equipment Engineer
At AREVA Federal Services LLC I worked as a mechanical equipment engineer for the Tokamak Cooling Water System (TCWS) project. The TCWS is the primary cooling system for the ITER Fusion Reactor, a first of a kind fusion reactor under construction in Cadarache, France. My experience includes pressure vessel and process piping design in accordance with ASME NQA-1, ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3 and French standards ESPN / PED. In this position I was responsible for the preparation and review of calculations, equipment specifications, design basis documents, and other miscellaneous documents. In parallel, I worked as Lead Engineer in an effort to deliver a first of a kind design of In-Cryostat TCWS piping that facilitated the transport of high temperature coolant and gas (>240 °C) through a cryostat environment of -193 °C.
Mechanical Equipment Engineer
Also at AREVA Federal Services, I worked as a mechanical equipment engineer for the Hanford Evaporator Project. This experience has given me intimate knowledge of the processes, equipment, and technical rigor involved in high-level liquid waste treatment systems and facilities like the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant. My technical experience includes pressure vessel and process piping design in accordance with ASME Section VIII, and ASME B31.3; frequently interfacing with the client, vendor fabricators, and a multi-discipline engineering staff throughout the design procurement, fabrication, and shipment cycle of each component.
Engineering Intern
Made significant contributions to several deliverables supporting the winning proposal for the Tokamak Cooling Water System (TCWS) of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) fusion reactor project. During this time I assisted in creating a rough order of magnitude estimate for the project, managed and catalogued project documentation, and delivered a detailed analysis of the TCWS earning an AREVA Core award for my accomplishments.
Professor'S Assistant / Mentor
Assisted professors grading papers, exams, and projects as a TA for the Introduction to Engineering Course at UNC Charlotte. Also assisted students with classes and professional development as a student mentor.
Nuclear, Biological, And Chemical Defense Specialist
Taught classes to Marines of how to detect, protect against, and decontaminate nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Ran the CS (tear gas) chamber exercises, maintained protection, detection, and decontamination equipment, and managed a platoon of over 35 Marines.Deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as the single NBC Specialist for the Force Service Support Group (FSSG) aboard the USS Austin (LPD-4), and worked in the S-3 supporting operations and training during the deployment. For those who do not know, the 26th MEU is one of many forces that are deployed at all times to immediately respond with troops on the ground if a situation were to occur in the region. It was an honor to serve our country and the world as the tip of the spear. While deployed abroad, I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for one year and multiple short deployments to Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Malta, Croatia, Slovenia, and Turkey while in the 26th MEU.
