Joe is a multi-disciplinary geoscientist who harnesses traditional and modern data science techniques to improve our understanding of Earth surface and subsurface processes and resources. He is bilingual in R and python for geoscience applications, and is a champion of data science and machine learning in the Earth sciences. Joe advocates taking a process-oriented perspective: the subsurface is dynamic, it can be explained in terms of fundamental building blocks, and is a function of physical, chemical and biological processes. Joe has authored 20+ peer reviewed papers, including as first author in high impact journals such as Science Advances (2022) - and is a peer reviewer for academic journals including Nature Geoscience (2022, 2023).
