About Joe Formica
I'm Joe, and I've been designing products and leading teams for over a decade. I’m all about the day-to-day work, skills, leadership, and resourcefulness that it takes to turn great ideas into great products. Between running my own startup, and building products for dozens of clients, I've learned plenty of lessons that I bring into my work everyday.I started Bitesize UX as a 20-minute extra credit project for my design students, and turned into an educational platform that has helped over 45,000 designers advance their skills and careers. As the founder, head of product, and lead designer, I wear many hats. I've done a lot to turn Bitesize into a thriving community of designers - but, I didn't do it alone. I've hired & led a small-but-mighty team of designers, developers, instructors, and marketing professionals to scale our product on a shoestring budget. In over 10 years as a self employed Lead Product Designer, I've worked on teeny-tiny startups, large enterprise companies, *unglamourous-but-important* back-end web apps, slick Smart TV Interfaces, and a whole bunch of stuff in between.

Instructional Designer And Adjunct Professor
Working directly with the head of Fordham University's Entrepreneurship Program, I helped develop and teach a full-semester course to undergraduate Seniors, along with an accelerated course for Graduate students in the Fordham MBA program.Though the course was modified for time and the varied experience of students, it centered around an extremely hands-on approach to launching a new startup. Students worked in teams on semester-long projects, where they learned about user research, designing and building MVPs, and leveraging existing tools to help launch and grow their startups.Both classes culminated with online "Startup Stories" built by students. These online portfolios and presentations detailed their process, growth, and body of work as they learned the skills to start with an idea, and begin to build a business based on real insights and their newly developed skills.
