Gallow/ Gallow: A Graphic Novel

Long Island New York

Created and produced Gallow, a culturally relevant graphic novel that addressed the issue of gun control in a unique way. Joe created the character known as Gallow that people could relate to, a modern day hero, who protected people in a contemporary society with a grounded approach. As such, the hero of the story had no 'super powers' other than his intelligence and wit, making him extremely relatable to the audience. It was done not only for fans of graphic novels but mainly for those who love great character driven films, who enjoy reading books, and people looking to be entertained. Gallow: Volume One received unanimous positive critical reception upon initial release. The artwork was well received as well as the character designs. Special praise was reserved for the plot twists and handling of the characters, adding layers to their respective personalities and having clear motivation for their actions in the story. The gun control elements were also integral to the plot and were tastefully handled, providing new insight to the audience on the topic that affects society.Conducted surveys, extensive research on the subject matter as well as developing a specific target audience. Established audience personas. Analyzed competition. Full pencils were created first by hand. Inks were then applied over copies of the final pencil illustrations. Digitally colored in Photoshop. Logos and Cover art created in Illustrator. Layout of all 28 pages and dialogue created in InDesign. Established a core brand for the character of Gallow including promotional printed pieces as well as a cutout of cityscape for the exhibition space. Presented Gallow at reception to colleagues and industry professionals in May 2013.
