My enthusiasm for the outdoors and graphic design made a position in Galyan’s marketing department a perfect first job. Galyan's was the premier active lifestyle retailer in the United States until it was bought out by Dick's Sporting Goods in 2004.The highest profile project I worked on was designing promotional materials for the grand opening of their 19th store in Walden Galleria--the largest mall in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area. Materials included posters, in-store signage, table tent cards, and advertisements. Galyan's president and CEO Joel Silverman said he thought this store had the largest soft-opening week in the company's history.I also promoted Galyan's philosophy of service and community by designing materials for their grass roots campaign, which was a key component of their marketing program. This increased their visibility in the local community and further enhanced their image as an active lifestyle retailer.
