For most of the last 16 years I had the privilege of serving as the Chief PA & ACP Manager in Carilion's Dept of Emergency Medicine, leading and managing a talented and dynamic group of 36 PAs and NPs practicing in all five EDs in our Carilion system: the mothership Roanoke Memorial (our tertiary care, academic, Level 1 trauma center), New River Valley Medical Center, Franklin Memorial, and Rockbridge & Giles Community Hospitals. Last September I stepped down as the leader and returned to full-time clinical practice. It was time (13 years was long enough) and despite working more clinical hours - I actually have more free-time since the tremendous administrative load is gone.Still passionate about teaching & lecturing in a classroom setting, but more so at the bedside on shifts. I’ve been an assistant professor & clinical instructor for the Radford University-Carilion PA program (formerly Jefferson College of Health Sciences) as well as precepting the students in the ED. I've lectured at the Virginia Academy of PAs summer and fall conferences, the Arizona State PA Association annual conference and at the American Academy of Physician Assistants annual CME conference.
