When I started, the digital landscape at The Lucas Group (TLG) consisted of 7 websites with 5 different Content Management Systems (CMS), 3 payment gateways and 2.5 different eCommerce platforms. These were outsourced to 3 different creative agencies. I worked on pioneering one… Show more When I started, the digital landscape at The Lucas Group (TLG) consisted of 7 websites with 5 different Content Management Systems (CMS), 3 payment gateways and 2.5 different eCommerce platforms. These were outsourced to 3 different creative agencies. My main goal was to reduce the technical debt caused by having these in different platforms, both financially and in the number of hours spent corresponding with the agencies to perform simple tasks. I worked on pioneering one core theme that could power all TLG websites. What I created was one core flexible theme, that would build pages with content blocks rather than templates. Each content block would be built around common design patterns. This meant once a feature was developed as a block it could now be deployed across all of TLG websites with minimal development, vastly increasing efficiency. I led the redesign on all seven websites around the flexible core theme I pioneered. To further reduce the company-wide technical debt I led the upgrade of TLG online stores, gift vouchers, takeaway orders and booking platforms. All possible platforms first went through digital compliance and audit checks. When platforms were selected, I led scoping workshops and then the product management with suppliers. The end goal was to engineer solutions that would natively integrate with our venues’ Point of Sale (POS) and allow free-flowing data ready for implementing a CRM. When I started at TLG I was placed in the Marketing team. There I instigated the use of Agile Project Management and within 6 months the system was rolled out company-wide, with 13 departments collaborating on my platform. I trained team champions to lead the project management, then worked with them to perfect their team’s workflow, as well as workflow transitions between each department.
