As Staff Software Engineer, I will work with Product Managers, Designers and Principal Engineers to be the technical lead for a variety of challenging projects. When I am not leading a project, I will be a collaborative and effective software engineer and team member.

Spearheaded the vision, architecture, and implementation of a large-scale platform engineering solution, supporting hundreds of developers globally and driving substantial value and savings.* Architected and deployed a secure, resilient, and self-scaling GitLab installation on AWS and Kubernetes using Ansible and Terraform.* Developed mission-critical Go web services and CLI tools to integrate embedded SDLC practices into the platform.* Created a solution connecting on-prem isolated networks to AWS VPCs using Juniper equipment, Go web services, and CLI tools for dynamic VLAN assignment.* Led and mentored a team of 8 engineers, fostering technical excellence and eliminating knowledge silos, while teaching software and systems engineering practices.* Collaborated with business units to demonstrate platform value, streamline onboarding, and provide expert implementation support.

Led change initiatives, mentored developers, and engineered CI/CD automation platform solutions for over 100 embedded developers.* Invented and co-built a distributed build system for embedded development, including a Python DSL and Go back-end microservices that coordinated running jobs on Kubernetes.* Developed Test-Driven Jenkins plugins in Groovy to simplify creating automation pipelines with embedded build tooling.* Introduced Agile (XP) and outside-in TDD methodologies, significantly improving quality and accelerating solution delivery.

Led, mentored, designed, engineered, and operated solutions supporting national Telecommunication operations using TDD and Kubernetes.* Led the creation of a web portal using React micro-frontends and JavaScript microservices.* Extended a monolithic customer self-service website used by thousands of users with new features using React micro-frontends and JavaScript microservices without customer impact.* Co-created an STB Pay-Per-View purchasing integration supporting thousands of devices, exposing an API to a device vendor through Java microservices with integration into the corporate billing system.

Engineered, troubleshot, and automated a large national telco’s access/carrier network, distinguishing myself as an invaluable resource in maintaining their large and complex hybrid VoIP/SS7 network.* Designed and developed a Perl-based BAF CDR processing and reporting system, billing/auditing IXCs and CLECs tens of thousands of dollars monthly.* Created Python automation software to migrate device configurations to new firmware releases by manipulating the provisioning server’s Oracle database and triggering device restarts.* Developed a PHP solution for circuit documentation, identifying circuit hops and linking them with network equipment, site locations, and third-party engineering documents.* Resolved national telephony tier 3 issues, leveraging deep network knowledge and collaborating with multiple departments, vendors, and customers.

My responsibilities included the support, engineering and automation of a provincial ISP/telco network, including Linux (RHEL) servers and installed network services, IP routers/switches, telephone switches and various transport and access nodes.* Re-engineered the provincial OSPF routing network by introducing new areas, extending the backbone network and reducing IP routing “noise” by converting edge areas into NSSAs.* Racked, powered, wired and configured a large provincial ADSL access network to a very high quality standard.* Developed numerous automation programs in Perl, BASH and PHP to support the network.

My responsibilities included the support, engineering and automation of a local ISP/telco network, including Linux (RHEL)/Solaris servers and installed network services, IP routers/switches, telephone switches and various transport and access nodes. Numerous automation programs were developed in Perl/BASH/PHP to help support this network.* Migrated the entire ISP server infrastructure from Sun Solaris to Linux with no customer complaints or prolonged outages.* Evolved the IP network to a geo-diverse IP interconnect, load balanced across two providers, using BGP and OSPF routing.* Developed numerous automation programs in Perl, BASH and PHP to support the network.

Administered the web site, and performed systems maintenance on our 2 Windows NT 4 IIS/Microsoft SQL servers and our Linux samba file server. I performed server hardware maintenance on our server systems, including BIOS configuration, hard disk maintenance, and RAID array maintenance. Also performed minor programming jobs using C & PHP and performed LAN support.

I built, repaired and upgraded PC hardware. I also troubleshooted and repaired advanced Windows 3.1/95/98 issues.
