As an Industrial Design Architect at Meta, Joel leads a team that creates next-generation hardware for AR, MR, and beyond. From developing ergonomic solutions to addressing complex architectural challenges, there are limitless areas for refinement and exploration. This includes moving quickly between high-level experience concepts and detailed, functional prototypes that inform the product and drive understanding of what matters most to users. Joel works alongside a diverse group of designers and engineers that are shaping the future of a new and rapidly evolving industry.

Joel led the Product Design practice within the Industrial Design Studio at Microsoft. He worked on a diverse range of programs including Courier, Xbox consoles and accessories, HoloLens, and numerous incubation projects in the consumer electronics space.

The brand attributes of clever, high quality, innovative, friendly, and fun were the mantra at Cranium. Joel's role demanded ownership of these attributes from product inception through production file release. This included close collaboration with creative, marketing, editorial, and production teams to shepherd products through the entire development cycle, focusing particularly on mechanical design and manufacturability for Cranium's toy product line.

Joel led Lunar's talented Product Design team and worked extensively with external partners, clients and vendors. His role demanded ownership of high-level process and program vision while maintaining the agility to immerse himself in functional design details. Co-workers and clients alike trusted Joel as a consistent resource, whether he was personally addressing their need or ensuring that his extended team got it done. Joel's clients spanned a range from small start-ups to industry leaders -- including HP, Google, Cisco, Sandisk, Oral B, and Rubbermaid.

Joel's responsibilities ranged from thumbnail sketching to detailed engineering drawing, from organic CAD surface development to opto-mechanical assembly design. Whether he functioned as the sole engineer on a project or as a member of a large program team, Joel never walked away from a program without a new core skill
