During my time at NO.46 I spent 4 years perfecting the art of making coffee and teaching this skill to others. NO.46 is the best ranked coffee shop in the area, this is partly due to the high standard of coffee and other beverages which I helped produce. This job helped me to appreciate the importance of completing tasks with attention to fine details; beverages were made perfectly according to my recipe and I was able to teach others to make great coffee to. Other responsibilities were:-1. Working front of house and leading shifts.2. Cooking various dishes to order and serving.3. Opening and closing the coffee shop- including stock taking, ordering and cashing up.

I spent 3 months with VSO in rural Nepal teaching sexual health to various communities. Our brief was to identify specific needs in the community with help from previous research, statistics and information from the locals, the latter being the most important. Using this information, we organised a number of events of different kinds to help with the issues identified. For example, due to the lack of bins in rural Nepali communities, a lot of rubbish is often found on the sides of streets. Additionally, many women in the community have no form of income and are often completely dependant on their husbands/families. To combat both these issues, I decided to bring a local craftsman to teach the women how to make baskets from plastic wrappers and stools from bamboo. With these new skills, women got together and began production of stools and baskets which were then sold at local markets. Furthermore, events like these were used as a platform to teach the community about sexual health issues such as the stigmatisation of menstruation, vaginal prolapse and sexually transmitted diseases.
