About Joel Ward

Learning a few dead (and living) languages may not have been the most direct path to helping students pursue their intellectual, professional, and personal interests, but that’s the path I took. I wouldn’t trade that circuitous route for anything though. It’s taken me to a lot of great places—New Orleans, Berlin, Rome, Taipei, DC, New York and now Boston! Some years ago, I abandoned the professoriate path. Now, I support student and faculty research activities and help organize a few student research symposia. One of my favorite parts of my job is connecting students to new opportunities (academic and professional) and to peer and faculty mentors who can provide even more support with their projects. When I’m not convincing faculty members to serve on selection committees or pulling reports from the clunkiest database you’ve ever seen, you’ll find me watching soccer (daje, Roma!); riding my bike along the Charles River Esplanade, Minuteman Path, or another of Boston's great bike paths; or catching up on the latest and greatest sitcoms and sketch comedy shows (like ITYSL or Baroness von Sketch).
