The Providence Center is the largest community mental health center in Rhode Island providing comprehensive services to adults, adolescents and children experiencing mental health, substance abuse, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Serving more than 12,000 people annually, TPC specializes in providing treatment and supportive services that respond to the entire spectrum of mental health and substance abuse recovery needs.As Treasurer and Chair of the Finance/Administration Committee, I served as the Board's primary representative overseeing TPCs $40+ million annual operating budget, large staff, technology and numerous facilities.

The community relations work with the Providence Journal introduced me to wonderful organizations in RI who were, and are, struggling to use scarce resources to meet great needs. To assist I have variously applied my skills in fund raising, strategic planning, executive management, event planning, strategic marketing and business development. Over the years I have worked with the Providence Public Library, Trinity Rep, the Urban League of RI, the Minority Investment and Development Corp., the Providence Center, the Center for Design and Business, Providence Black Rep and numerous others. I have also worked with several small for profit businesses.

During my term as Board Chair the Library undertook a Capital Campaign to refurbish the Library branch system; more than $13 million was raised for Capital and Operating support; two branches were fully renovated; the Library was presented the award for the most outstanding Urban Library by First Lady Laura Bush at the White House in 2002.

The Center was a joint venture between RISD and Bryant University formed to support entrepreneurial/business skills and support design as a business differentiator. I chaired the annual Success by Design conference for many years and supported the CDB small business incubator during its formative years.

For the period from 1987 to 2001 I served as the Chief Revenue Officer for the Publishing division of the Providence Journal Co. In that position I was responsible for all newspaper sales and marketing, including advertising sales, circulation sales, sales promotion, market research and community affairs. I also managed the company's investments in other publishing businesses locally and throughout the country. Local examples include the launch of the newspaper's online products, starting with RI Horizons which morphed to become projo.com, and the purchase of RI Monthly.
