Call me the glue

Starting on a temp to permanent basis, and fully employed at April, I’ve been driving for XPO primarily for their VWR contract delivering ADR products to their customers all around and outside of the Midlands. Driving primarily an 18T Class 2, but also 7.5Ts and Lutons as required.I’ve become a representative for all the driver during monthly/quarterly meeting in regards to H&S meetings, voicing their requirements and concerns, and help passing on and encouraging new practices.Due to my good work ethic I’ve become the designated driver to help out other contracts XPO have, with changing work load or driver availability.

After starting with Merchants, and them putting me through my HIAB license, I would go out tot Yorkshire, Swansea, London, Dover, wherever customers had ordered their sister company Stressline’s floors beam, lintels, paving stones and more to be delivered to. Driving a 32T Volvo HIAB truck, arriving at private builds to huge residential developments, arranging delivery placement with the customers on site to suite their needs.

Worked as and when needed for a family’s firm, to help them whilst finishing off a new build in Enderby, carrying out all manner of duties, from painting to installing wall and ceiling boards. Gaining new knowledge and experience with a new line of work I hadn’t tried before.

With Ian and Shelley, I’ve rejoined the company as a log truck driver, being promoted to assistant mechanic and driver, as it has been an ambition of mine to get into the mechanical side of the industry. I’ve shown great promise in this area, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being between both roles. From changing brake pots, universals joints, re-lining brake shoes, to helping to remove gearboxes and to preparing trucks and trailers for COFs, doing all this and more on old and new Macks, a Hino and a Renault.

With Tim Hood, I was employed to start as a relief driver over the winter period, driving all the fleet consisting of Kenworths and Western Stars so their other drivers may get some time off. An unforeseen event occurred during my first 90 days of employment and so my contract was terminated.
