As a start-up Dealers United went though various stages of change and growth which left them with several unique contract variations before I arrived. These contract variations were plentiful and difficult to model; there was no standard to allow for flexible negotiations with clients.Working with their Business Development team we defined a standard by going through a years worth of client contracts which allowed me to create a model to account for all the customization.Since the contracts defined how the revenue was shared (between Dealers United and their Clients) and "boxed" accounting software didn't have support for the way the contracts and splits were written in; it became difficult to predict revenue. A custom accounting application was needed.After reviewing their contracts and creating a structure that would account for all of customization in all of their contracts; I rewrote their legacy storefront and built an accounting software that handled the custom nature of their contracts. This software calculates splits and percentages of revenue being dispersed at varying rates and percentages over period of time between Dealers United and their Client.Hiring and mentoring a Ruby Developer (Chris Pedersen) while at Dealers United was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life; highly rewarding. I'm no stranger to managing development teams but I've never mentored one-to-one for an extended period of time.
