I work to help clients to obtain patent protection for their biotechnological inventions.Using my background in biochemistry, genetics and neuroscience, I have particular experience in prosecution of European patents and coordination of international portfolios of patent applications.As a further specialism, I work within Potter Clarkson's SPC and Regulatory Group, helping clients to navigate the complex legal framework of obtaining supplementary protection beyond the standard life of a patent for high value pharmaceutical products.I obtained a first class honours degree in Biochemistry with Industrial Placement from the University of Leeds in 2011, winning several awards including best final year project in the Biochemistry and Biotechnology programmes and best final year student in the Faculty of Biological Sciences.During my undergraduate studies, I undertook a year-long research placement at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, investigating the effects of a mutation that causes familial Parkinson’s disease, before returning to Leeds for my final year where my project involved generating and characterising mutants of a bacterial secondary active transporter. Returning to the field of Parkinson’s disease genetics, I pursued post-graduate research in the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre at the University of Oxford during an MSc in Neuroscience and a DPhil in Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics.My DPhil research utilised neurons generated from induced pluripotent stem cells to investigate the role of a common susceptibility gene for Parkinson’s disease and has been published and presented at significant scientific conferences.
