When I was nineteen, I was fortunate enough to land a job as a QA tester working on the Xbox Live Arcade team. I’d had other jobs before, but this was the first job that I really felt a connection to the work I was doing. I continued to work in QA for another three years before I realized that something was missing. I was still young, and I had so many questions about who I was and whether or not this was really what I wanted to do with my life. So I packed up, moved across the country, and changed careers. For the next ten years I traveled and worked in half a dozen different industries, each time trying to push myself out of my comfort zone a little more. I traveled to New Zealand, worked in non-profit, pushed myself into leadership and public speaking roles because it was something I was uncomfortable with and I wanted to be better. It was an incredible period of growth for me. But after a while, I realized that I missed having that connection to my work, I missed the satisfaction I felt working in the tech industry. So I pivoted again and began my career as a software engineer. Now I couldn’t be happier. Technology has always been a part of my life, and I’m finally able to start turning the ideas that have spun around in my head into a reality. I’m a full-stack developer and have had a great time working on both the front and back end of apps.
