After working in IT and the cybersecurity fields for years, I realized that I had a desire to know more about how circuits are designed and how to create the hardware that ran the computers I use every day. I decided to go back to school and I set my sights on an undergraduate degree in computer engineering. Once I received my degree, I figured that I would balance it with a graduate degree in Cybersecurity.I set two goals for myself when I went back to school.1. I would not go into debt for my degrees.2. I would maintain a high GPA no matter what.I worked multiple part time jobs in order to pay for tuition and to help provide for my family. This was a major shift from what my career had been to this point. I became a tutor and a grader for my professors and at night I would deliver pizzas.Maintaining a high GPA while working multiple jobs was not the easiest thing I have done. My time in school was a lot of long nights with little to no sleep. In the end, I achieved my goals and graduated with honors and no student loans. Along the way I also earned an Associate’s Degree and am currently working on that Master’s degree in cybersecurity. I talk about these goals because they help create a picture of the kind of person I am: dedicated, determined, responsible, and hard working. I enjoy the challenges because finding the solution is such a great reward.During my years of experience in the Cybersecurity industry, I have mentored others, held leadership positions, and have had the opportunity to be mentored and led by truly amazing people. I have become a firm believer that leadership is about serving those you lead, not just managing, and providing them with the guidance and resources necessary to achieve their goals.
