Joel is an ideas guy. His gift seems to stem from a strange combination of observation, insight, and blatant disregard for conventional thinking.He's also a juggler (literally and figuratively). In addition to leading the Beanstalk Creative team, he maintains a busy schedule as a keynote speaker, creating unforgettable spectacles on stage. He's the father of 3 kids, 2 of whom co-habitated a uterus, and he attempts to be a good husband. Joel has authored 3 books, (2 of them with Brandon Love), and he taught engineering for over a decade at McMaster University, where he was named one of the Top 150+ Alumni. Most recently, Joel taught Professional Communication for first year B.Tech Students.For many years, he taught Sustainability & Ethics in Engineering - the final year "non-technical" course to help engineers become not just great technicians, but great people. He teaches between 300 and 350 students each semester. He gets great reviews, but is most proud of creating a course that helps engineers broader their perspectives and, hopefully, conscientiously choose how they wish to contribute to the world.In 2013, Joel also developed and taught a new interdisciplinary course on Sustainability. While the course continues, Joel is no longer the instructor. -
