Wrote, assigned, and edited environmental features for the magazine. Coordinated environmental coverage and represented the magazine at environmental conferences and in the media. Wrote investigative feature on rebuilding New Orleans that broke the story on shoddy repairs to the levee system, as well as an award-winning investigative feature on Biofuels that unveiled the environmental toll of corn ethanol. Investigative cover story on oil impacts on Alaska's North Slope. Broke the results of the only oil well drilled in ANWR--the tightest industry secret in Alaska.--"Loving Our Coasts to Death," July 2006, investigation into the impacts of population growth on - the U.S. coasts. Interviewed on CNN.-- "The Battle of Hampton Roads," March 2006. With photographer Ira Glass, helped find and verify the original bell of U.S.S. Merrimack/ C.S.S. Virginia and facilitated its donation to the U.S. Naval Museum in Washington, D.C.

Managed, edited, and assigned articles, text blocks, and legends for 15 staff writers. Also wrote features articles, including:--"Gone with the Water," October 2004, which warned of the calamity of Hurricane Katrina one year before the nation's worst natural disaster. Interviewed by CNN, Fox News, and NPR, and other media. The story was cited in a Doonesbury comic strip.--Text Editor for National Geographic special issue on Exploration.--Member of in-house "Green Team" that shaped environmental coverage.
