I started my own small business (JK Auto Cleaning and Detailing) at the age of 15. To date, I have grown my business by over 1000% in profit, a remarkable achievement. Due to the high quality of my services, I was able to quickly grow my business, especially through customer referrals. I used a proactive approach to marketing and advertising involving a multi-faceted approach encompassing road signs, business cards, social media platforms, and face-to-face sales. Once customers made contact, I would sell my services and schedule the job. I learned all aspects of owning and operating a small business including sales (especially face-to-face), marketing, quality control, managing employees, negotiating, problem solving, etc. I was also responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable and managing all the work from beginning to end. The best compliment I would receive is a customer referral. In conclusion, through this experience, I acquired a comprehensive skill set essential for small business ownership and management. This included expertise in sales and marketing, communications, stringent quality control, team management, negotiation, problem-solving, and other key operational aspects. Moreover, I shouldered responsibilities related to accounts receivable and accounts payable, while overseeing all jobs from initiation to completion.

During a 9-week internship, I actively engaged in two distinct programs focused on Operations Leadership and Sales Leadership within the scrap metal recycling industry. This immersive experience allowed me to acquire essential knowledge in various aspects, including scrap metal material identification, safety protocols, daily operational procedures, and the intricacies of shipping and receiving.My internship involved shadowing seasoned commercial team members, enabling me to gain valuable insights into the art of cultivating and nurturing relationships with a diverse array of customers, both suppliers and consumers. This skill was instrumental in identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities within the industry.Additionally, I actively contributed to staff meetings, participated in strategic planning sessions, and had the privilege of working on a comprehensive summer-long project that culminated in a final presentation. This experience not only enriched my understanding of the scrap metal recycling sector but also honed my strategic and presentation skills.
